Inda Wyatt Rhem
Inda Wyatt Rhem went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the age of 88. She was born September 22, 1921, the daughter of the late John Allen and Inda Fitzhugh Rhem of Garysburg, NC.
Inda received her early education in the public schools in Weldon, NC and graduated from John Graham High School in Warrenton, NC in 1938. The family moved back to Garysburg in the early 40’s where Inda was employed by the Garysburg post office as clerk/assistant postmaster until her retirement in 1972, after 30 years of service.
Inda was a woman of great integrity who was greatly loved in life and will be equally missed in death. She will be remembered for her love of gardening and her beautiful yard with all of her lovely flowers. Many people have enjoyed her crocheted snowflakes and felt Christmas ornaments.
She was an active member of Garysburg United Methodist Church until its closure due to lack of membership and its placement in the National Historical Society. Inda then became a member of Weldon United Methodist Church where she lived. Bayberry Retirement Home in Roanoke Rapids was her home for about 10 years until she moved to Liberty Commons Nursing Home in 2006 due to declining health.
In addition to her parents, Inda was preceded in death by two brothers, Furnie Rhem and John F. Rhem, and two sisters, Julia Rhem and Margaret R. Ballentine.
She is survived by one sister, Edith R. Andrews of Rocky Mount; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of wonderful, caring friends.
A graveside service will be held at the Garysburg United Methodist Church at the family plot at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 12, 2010 with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.
Those wishing to make a contribution in celebration of her life are asked to consider Garysburg United Methodist Church Endowment, PO Box 1095, Raleigh, NC or Weldon United Methodist Church, 405 Washington Ave., Weldon, NC 27890.
